House Update: Week 1
/The first week of owning our the house was the longest shortest week ever. We started work on the house immediately since we only have two weeks to get the major renovations completed.
We removed the half wall in the living room and moved the outlet to side the wall:
The wall paper is gone and majority of the upstairs has been painted.
We also removed the ugly blue carpet and replaced it with new hardwood floors and refinished the existing ones. I'm really excited about the stain that we picked out! A mixture of modern gray and traditional brown.
I lost count how many stores we went to in search of appliances. We've been to Habitat for Humanity's ReStore, Lowe's, Sears, Sears Outlet, Home Depot, and a few others I can't recall. We have a unicorn of an appliance that needs to be replaced: a microwave/convection oven + oven combo unit. The oven combo has been the driving factor for the brands and finish that we could order. It's not a cheap appliance, either.
Home Depot has a GE combo unit that we like so we purchased it there, along with a dishwasher and a Samsung fridge. These beauties are arriving this Friday:
We haven't decided on whether or not we're doing to keep the gas stove top or switch to electric. We're saving that decision for when we have the time and money to remodel the kitchen.
New furniture will also have to wait and I'm totally okay with that. Now, if we stumble upon something great, we'll get it! Like this wine buffet at the brand new ReStore in the University area:
That's it for the first week!
